First, your group will identify a <u style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">current ethical problem in the hospitality business<\/u><br \/>\n and report on how this problem is manifesting in a particular sector<br \/>\n(such as restaurants or upper upscale hotels) in the hospitality<br \/>\nindustry. Next, you will choose an organization that one team member<br \/>\nworked or is working at or at least your group is familiar with. The<br \/>\nproposal is written as if your group is working for this organization<br \/>\nthat needs help to make a change to solve an ethical problem. Then, your<br \/>\n group will <u style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">propose one narrow solution<\/u> to the problem that the<br \/>\norganization can reasonably implement. Decide who in the company this<br \/>\nshould be proposed to (who can do something about the problem or who has<br \/>\n the authority to approve the proposal).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><strong style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Proposal Format<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">The proposal should be at least four full pages (including cover page) in<span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"> a typical internal business proposal format<\/span><br \/>\n (see proposal template). This is single-spaced with one line space<br \/>\nbetween paragraphs, as well as headers to indicate the different<br \/>\nsections. The background\u2019s penultimate (second to last) sentence<br \/>\nshould be the problem statement. What, ultimately, is the problem for<br \/>\nthe company?<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">The background statement should end with the aim. What do you hope to<br \/>\n do with your proposal and how will it help the company? (This may be<br \/>\neasier to write after you complete the proposal section.) <span style=\"font-size: 12pt; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Remember<br \/>\n that your aim should be fairly small, and if you are trying to solve a<br \/>\nmulti-step or multi-pronged problem, you should only focus on the<br \/>\neasiest or smallest part. The aim<\/span> will provide a transition into the proposal section.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Paraphrase and cite in footnote format all outside sources. Do not use quotes from other sources.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><strong style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">The data visualization will most likely appear in the background section.<\/strong><br \/>\n Place it right after the paragraph where you write about the topic you<br \/>\nare visualizing. Reference the chart\/visualization in the text.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><strong style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Proposal<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">The proposal section should begin with what you aim to do. The rest<br \/>\nof the section should explain thoroughly how you (or the organization)<br \/>\nintend to implement the proposal. Think about as many aspects of the<br \/>\nproposal as you can.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><strong style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Requirements<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">This section explains what is needed to complete the project\/change proposed.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><strong style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Deliverables and Measurements<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">In this section, explain what will be turned in (if applicable) and<br \/>\nhow the success of this proposed project\/policy change will be measured<br \/>\nquantitatively.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><strong style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Costs (and benefits if applicable)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">This section should only comprise a table that lists the categories<br \/>\nof costs (think accounting) and the amounts. You will have to do some<br \/>\nresearch to estimate the various costs. There can be a separate table<br \/>\naccounting for the benefits (savings, usually). The table should measure<br \/>\n the costs and benefits in dollars. If some benefits or costs are<br \/>\ndifficult to quantify, you can write about those in addition to the<br \/>\ntable.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><strong style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Footnotes<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Use footnotes, not endnotes. This is for the ease of the reader. Use<br \/>\nthe footnote feature in your word processing program so they are<br \/>\nautomatically numbered and placed.
