This paper is designed to help you think about how you, as
\na nurse, can prevent a disease and promote health within a specific patient
\npopulation. You will design strategies for health promotion\/primary prevention
\nthat will reach a large group of people or a community (e.g. WPUstudents;
\npregnant women in a certain borough, etc.).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Each student selects a health problem from any of the
\nseminar presentations posted for the semester and submits to instructor via
\nBlackBoard for approval by end of module 3. Onc eapproved, student will develop
\na written paper (five-page maximum excluding references) and include the
\nfollowing headings (Significance of health problem, Strategies for health promotion\/primary
\nprevention, and Variables impacting health promotion\/primary prevention):<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nparagraphs. The first paragraph should<\/p>\n

speak to the impact of the disease in general. How many
\npeople in the nation, or in the world,<\/p>\n

have the disease? What is the cost in terms of quality of
\nlife\/death? (incidence, prevalence,<\/p>\n

morbidity, mortality, economic cost). This information
\nshould be cited from a minimum of two<\/p>\n

peer-reviewed journal articles.<\/p>\n

The second paragraph can address
\nthese same \u201ccosts\u201d in terms specific to your focus group. Is<\/p>\n

there are higher rate of incidence, prevalence, morbidity,
\nmortality, or economic cost associated<\/p>\n

This section describes a minimum of
\nthree variables that can impact the success of your<\/p>\n

program. In one paragraph, identify cultural, legal,
\npsycho-socio-economic, family variables<\/p>\n

specific to your population. This section is worth 25
\npoints.<\/p>\n

Summary<\/b><\/p>\n

It is always good to summarize your
\nmain points. Three to four sentences should suffice.<\/p>\n

Restate your topic and focus group. Restate the necessity
\nand effectiveness of your prevention<\/p>\n

strategy. Restate how your program can overcome variables
\nand successfully limit disease in<\/p>\n

your target population. You will need to add a reference
\npage. References begin on a new page<\/p>\n

following the last sentence of your paper\u2019s text.<\/p>\n

References<\/b><\/p>\n

References are doublespaced and ordered alphabetically. They
\nare formatted with a hanging<\/p>\n

indent. The first line of each reference is flush with the
\nleft margin. Subsequent<\/p>\n
