The Jacksonian Era (the topic for last week) overlaps in time with the topic for this week: the Market\/Industrial Revolution. As mentioned last week, whereas the term Jacksonian Era refers to socio-political<\/em> <\/span>developments from roughly 1820-1850, the term Market Revolution refers to socio-economic<\/em> <\/span>developments between 1815-1860.<\/p>\n

The Market Revolution refers to a variety of major changes in American society and economy between the War of 1812 and the Civil War: industrialization and the rise of modern capitalism, the Transportation Revolution, the Communications Revolution, urbanization, immigration, the decline of patriarchy, and more. In short, this period was a time of profound and far-reaching change.<\/p>\n

Several social, political, and religious movements focused on reform of some kind also emerged during the Market Revolution. Two of the more significant movements established during this time were the Abolition and Women’s Rights Movements. We will examine these two movements in some detail in the coming weeks.   <\/p>\n
