As a teacher you will encounter various situations that can impact the social and emotional need of your students. It is important to have knowledge of various strategies to support your students in coping with the situation.

In this task you will choose a real-world scenario and react to it as though you were a teacher whose students would be affected by that situation. You will explain strategies you would use to help your students cope with the scenario and justify how those strategies will be effective in helping your students.

Please note: To assist you in this task, we strongly recommend you start by reviewing the SOE Professional Dispositions and Ethics linked in the Web Links section below. You might consider reviewing Module 13 prior to starting this task.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Select one of the following hypothetical scenarios:<\/p>\n

\u2022  a school shooting in a neighboring community<\/p>\n

\u2022  a student\u2019s suicide<\/p>\n

\u2022  the divorce of a student\u2019s parents<\/p>\n

\u2022  a natural disaster in the area that affects the community of your school<\/p>\n

\u2022  the death or traumatic injury of a student in your classroom, not related to a school shooting<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Your submission must be your original work. No more than a combined total of 30% of the submission and no more than a 10% match to any one individual source can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. The originality report that is provided when you submit your task can be used as a guide.

 You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course.
