Over the past couple of years, several states have begun writing
\nlegislation designed to limit youth and teen access to social media
\nplatforms.  Many colleges\/universities and government entities (including
\nthe entire state of Montana) have banned or have tried to ban the TikTok app
\nfrom users, and other states are trying to require that social media platforms
\nprovide “child-safe” versions of their platforms.  Other laws
\nrequire that minors younger than 16 get parental consent to access their
\nplatforms.  <\/span><\/p>\n

For this assignment, we will take a look at the recent Florida
\nlaw proposed (which is currently being revised).<\/span><\/b>  The original
\nlaw would’ve been the strictest social media regulation in the
\ncountry.  <\/span><\/p>\n

The law includes the following elements:<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Prohibits children under 16 years old from opening social media
\naccounts<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Allows a “parental permission exception” for youth
\naged 14 and 15<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Requires verification that the people providing the parental
\npermission exemptions are the minor’s legal parent or guardian <\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Opens social media sites to potential lawsuits for violations of
\nage restrictions <\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Requires age 18 verification to access pornographic websites<\/span><\/p>\n

In this essay, you will discuss reasons why you would support or
\noppose such a law or a variation of this law.  You could also argue that
\nthe law should be stricter\/more expansive to include other provisions (maybe
\ninclude all of these laws\/rules for anyone 18 years of age and younger) or you
\ncould argue that some of these elements should remain in the law but not
\nothers, and\/or you could propose different ideas that limit\/moderate social

\nlaw, and offering modifications or alternative pieces to the law.    <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
