\nuse quotation marks and reference appropriately. These papers will be checked

\nthe original book or from other papers. Extreme cases of plagiarism may result
\nin an F on the paper and\/or in the class.<\/b> To be graded, reports must have an APA title page, abstract and reference

CONTENT:<\/span><\/u><\/b> You will have four main
\nsections of your paper plus a references section. Below, I provide directions
\non what to put in each section.  <\/span>Read
\nthrough this and the sample paper before<\/b> you start your paper. I suggest
\nas you read the book, use Post-it\u00ae<\/sup> stickers or something similar to
\nmark the main points and analogies you find interesting. That way, you do not
\nhave to go back through the novel when it comes time to write. <\/span><\/p>\n

Title (Intro)<\/span><\/p>\n

            <\/span>Describe
\nthe content of the book in terms of the questions the author is trying to
\nanswer in this part of the book.  <\/span>For
\nexample, \u201cGaarder recounts the history of Western philosophy by telling the
\nstory of a young girl who has questions about life and becomes involved in a
\nmystery she attempts to solve.\u201d  <\/span>This
\nsection should be no more than one or
\ntwo short paragraphs. The first and second book reports should have different
\nintroductions.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n


<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Main Topics<\/span><\/p>\n

Describe six<\/b> main topics<\/b> (philosopher, idea, or
\ntheme) in the half of the book about which you are reporting (first paper
\ncovers the first half, second paper covers the second half).  <\/span>Use one to three paragraphs for each main topic.  <\/span>Please
\nnumber each of the six<\/u> and indicate the pages which the topic spans<\/u>.<\/b>
\nThis section will be about the meat of the book, not<\/i> the plot or mystery.  <\/span>Any
\nof the \u201csix main topics\u201d can be philosophers (e.g., Aristotle, Descartes,
\nHegel), questions across time (e.g., Is knowledge innate or acquired?) and\/or
\nhistorical trends (e.g., Hellenism). They can be in any combination (e.g., four
\nphilosophers, one trend, and one question). Be sure to sample from across the chapters you read for each report.<\/b>  <\/span>You
\nwill<\/u><\/b> lose points if you skip
\nover more than 50 pages of the text without addressing a topic from those pages<\/b><\/u>. <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n
