    In Section XII of the <\/span>Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding<\/i>, Hume says that \u201cthe Cartesian doubt\u2026 were it ever possible to be attained by any human creature (as it plainly is not) would be entirely incurable and no reasoning could ever bring us to a state of assurance and conviction upon any subject.\u201d (p. 593) Explain (briefly) the \u2018Cartesian doubt\u2019 to which Hume is referring and (in greater length) why Hume thinks it is \u2018incurable\u2019 but not troubling for philosophy. Do this by making detailed reference to the aspects of Hume\u2019s argument in the <\/span>Enquiry<\/i> <\/span>most relevant to his view of Descartes\u2019s philosophy.
