Disaster Management in Developed, Developing, and Under-Developed  Countries

During the course of the semester you will each write a 8-10 page research paper on disaster management in a developed, developing, or under-developed country. Your research paper should be a comprehensive study of disaster management in your chosen country. Pre-research the country of your interest to make sure they have a disaster management scheme in place. Make sure to carefully research your paper using peer-reviewed journals and widely published data.  <\/span>APA Style applies: Cover page, running heads, Times New Roman Font, Size 12, double spacing, etc.<\/strong> <\/span>Pay attention to organization, e.g.: subheadings, narrative flow, etc. The page count does not include covers or References sections.<\/span><\/p>\n

Note, you should have chosen this country at the beginning of the semester.  Remember, no mention of the United States in your paper.  Again, my international students should have chosen countries other than their country of origin.<\/em>

Content<\/strong>
The report and presentation should include the following for your study:
\u2022    The rationale and history behind that country\u2019s organizational approach to disaster management (Why is disaster management in that country organized the way it is?)
\u2022    The implementation pattern that applies (top-down, bottom-up, or confused) (Are response and recovery actions triggered by the national government or by local government?)
\u2022    Disaster Hazards and Planning: What kinds of disasters is your country prone to? What disasters have they planned for?
\u2022    Participants in that country\u2019s disaster management (Who participates in the process? Governmental agencies NGOs? Military? International Organizations?)
\u2022    Potential Obstacles to Effective Disaster Management <\/span>
\u2022    How Disasters have shaped Disaster Management Planning and Policy in that country today
\u2022    References: A minimum of 4 sources should be used<\/p>\n
