There are many angles to this problem and I believe we are just beginning all the different factors that contributed to the crisis. Having said that, I was a bit taken by surprise by your selection of the nation-building process as an explanatory context. As it is written, it is unclear what is the connection between this process and Venezuela’s crisis. I believe a more relevant explanatory context would be the discussion of the economic models of development in Venezuela. I would strongly recommend reading “Revolutions in Cuba and Venezuela” by Silvia Pedraza and Carlos Romero. This book was published last year and develops an interesting comparison of the two revolutions. You can focus on what they say about Venezuela, paying attention to the sources and references they use.
