Employees who are highly engaged are committed to their work and see themselves as helping \u201cbuild a cathedral.\u201d Disengaged employees have essentially checked out\u2014they are merely \u201claying bricks\u201d for a paycheck, not building a cathedral. \u202fAccording to the Gallup report of 2013, only about 30% of the American workforce was \u201cengaged\u201d, and international data showed essentially the same results. In 2019, Gallup found that engagement had risen somewhat since 2013. (Both reports are posted in Module 7.) With this in mind, address these questions:\u202f<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. What is the impact of \u201cengaged\u201d versus \u201cdisengaged\u201d employees on a company\u2019s. <\/li>\n
  2. profits? For the purposes of this assignment, treat \u201cengaged\u201d as if it means the same thing as \u201cinwardly committed to the good of the business.\u201d (You can ignore whether or not they participate in company bowling or softball leagues.) Why do you believe this?<\/li>\n
  3. Using Lewin\u2019s 3-Stage Model, how would you re-engage disengaged employees at every level in the organization? What conditions need to be in place in order to accomplish this? How would you make sure that their engagement results in a measurable increase in productive effort? (See Lessons 7 and 8).<\/li>\n
  4. Refer to Drucker, <\/span>Management<\/em>, pp. 258-268, which you read as part of TD #2. How would you use Drucker\u2019s Management by Objectives, combined with Lewin\u2019s 3-Stage Model, to secure the commitment of all employees, at every level an organization (all the way to the bottom)?<\/li>\n
  5. What style or styles of leadership are most likely to be successful in preserving this commitment once it has been attained?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    • Acceptable\/credible sources include: Academic journals and books, industry journals, the class textbook, the lectures, and sources cited in the lectures.   You may use credible business website sources in addition to these but avoid Wikipedia and \u201cshortcuts\u201d such as Mindtools. Wikipedia and Mindtools are not considered valid academic sources (even though they are sometimes good.)  This is an academic paper that needs to include scholarly research.<\/span> <\/span><\/li>\n
