Identify the patient, family, or group you want to work with during your practicum. The patient you select can be a friend or a family member: Larry a 58 year old Male, whom weights 290 pounds and is 5 foot 9 inches tall. He lives a sedentary life, neglecting his health over the years because he doesn’t “like going to the doctors” . He’s a 3 pack a week smoker for the past 25 years, gets take out for most of his meals . Larry one day wasn’t feeling too well. He was excessively thirsty, had nausea\/vomitting , and he was short of breath. His neighbor brought him to the hospital where they found that Larry was hypertensive with blood pressure being 169\/104, respirations 28, oxygen saturation of 93%, blood sugars were  in the 700s, and he was diagnosed with DKA(Diabetic Ketoacidosis) . While Larry was in the ERthey noticed he had a wound on his right foot which Larry didn’t know he had-they told him it was a non healing diabetic ulcer from his diabetes. Larry’s hemoglobin A1c resulted at 12.2 and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. <\/p>\n
