\nidentify the author\u2019s underlying argument about it. Build a paper around that
\nargument to demonstrate its presence (through clear patterns of quoted
\nevidence, using a linked set of body paragraphs), identifying its potential
\nlarger significance. <\/span><\/p>\n

PURPOSE<\/span><\/b>: To discover
\nliterature\u2019s problem-solving powers by way of shaping and supporting a
\nsignificant text-based argument. Toward this end, you\u2019re demonstrating how a
\ntext\u2019s techniques contribute to its themes.<\/span><\/p>\n

CRITERIA<\/span><\/b>: Papers will be graded
\non the presence of the significant question and answer, the appropriateness of
\nthe essay\u2019s evidence (esp. cited quotes), structure, and format, and the argument\u2019s
\nclarity, complexity, unity, and significance.<\/span><\/p>\n

WISDOM<\/span><\/b>: What, according to

\nachieve wisdom to compare and reveal the one mode the author seems to champion
\nas the truest\/most reliable method. [Note:
\n\u201cwisdom\u201d is a broad topic; successful papers tend to narrow the topic to a

POWER:  <\/span><\/span><\/b>It\u2019s not just the rich and famous that are

\npower gets distributed in the text, write an essay that makes an argument about what the author is saying about power\u2019s sources,

\nthe (often mutually exclusive) variety in outlook, as an alternative to forced
\nconformity, how can we work together as a multi-perspectival group? Craft a
\npaper to pursue one such question on the
\ntopic of perspective and its significance<\/b>, as demonstrated by Spiegelman or
\nWoodson.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n
