The company\u2019s primary product is new<br \/>\nadd-ons and additional cards for the game that keep it new and fresh for its<br \/>\nplayers. The game has remained a big moneymaker for the organization, with the<br \/>\nnew add-ons providing a strong revenue stream from existing players and also<br \/>\ndrawing in new players. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">The company has approximately 25<br \/>\nemployees, with most involved in coming up with new ideas for new cards and<br \/>\nexpansions. These employees are generally in their twenties (the average<br \/>\nemployee age is 24.3); 80% are White, 80% are male, and 75% are from<br \/>\nmiddle-class backgrounds. Their employment backgrounds are generally in standup<br \/>\ncomedy, freelance writing, and improve comedy. Most are college graduates; many<br \/>\nemployees have degrees in English, Communication, or Art-related subjects. The<br \/>\ntwo founders act as co-leaders of the organization and make all decisions on<br \/>\nwhich new ideas get produced and what the company will do next. They are both<br \/>\nWhite males in their late 30s from upper middle-class backgrounds. One has a<br \/>\nbachelor\u2019s degree in English and the other has an MBA. There is one dedicated<br \/>\nHuman Resource officer, but the founders are still significantly involved in<br \/>\nall employee-related matters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Games That Get You Canceled has a company<br \/>\nculture it describes as \u201cCompletely Un-PC and Keeping it Real.\u201d This is a very<br \/>\ninformal culture where everyone at all levels is supposed to be friends; making<br \/>\nother coworkers laugh is very important and no one is supposed to take offense<br \/>\nfrom what others say. To a large degree, their culture embraces the ethos of<br \/>\ntheir most popular game: the funniest joke is the best joke, regardless of how<br \/>\noffensive or outrageous it might be. Some female<br \/>\nemployees have complained that the chat program is used by other employees to<br \/>\nhit on them and verbally harass them. The accused often frame this as harmless<br \/>\nand relevant to the \u201cinformal\u201d nature of the process of coming up with creative<br \/>\nideas. The organization also has no rules against interoffice relationships or<br \/>\nhook-ups. The official policy is that everyone can make their own decisions as<br \/>\nconsenting adults. The HR Department has received a number of<br \/>\nreports from Black employees about \u201cjokes\u201d made that seemed to be racist or<br \/>\nmalicious; these \u201cjokes\u201d were made by both coworkers and the founders. These<br \/>\nreports have usually been shrugged off as the messiness of trying to come up<br \/>\nwith edgy jokes. As one founder said in an interview with a local newspaper \u201cWe<br \/>\ntry to push the boundaries of good taste and even bad taste with every release.<br \/>\nDoes this mean sometimes we go over lines? You bet!\u201d Some Black employees have<br \/>\nalso felt a need to speak out to management about new cards that seem to be<br \/>\nracist, with those objections only sometimes leading to changes. They have<br \/>\noften felt the objections were treated as just a nuisance. Some Black employees<br \/>\nalso feel they have been excluded from social events at the company and that<br \/>\nthey are often not in the chat channels where the \u201creal\u201d decisions are made.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">These concerns have started to become<br \/>\npublic.
