\nRuth Wallen, Yasmine Ostendorf, Maja and Reuben Fowkes. Furthermore, there is a
\nbasic misconception about Public Art, which is not a technique or mediatic
\nstrategy (written in small caps), but rather an heterogeneous international and
\nmultigenerational movement (written in capital letters) that recognises the
\nnecessity to interact with the audience and engage with communities, especially
\noutside institutional places. The paper should refer to the principles of
\nPublic Art looking at some of its pioneers like Suzanne Lacy, Barbara Steveni,
\nJohn Latham, and David Harding. A wider conception of public art (small
\ncaps) as a generic collector of anything that is put in the public space
\n(monuments, buildings, gardens etc.) is hardly used in recent scholarly
\nliterature engaging with art and sustainability, since it lacks the ability to
\nfocus on specific cases of audience engagement and of community driven
\ninterventions.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

There
\nare also problems related to the methodological approach to artworks and art
\nhistorical topics, such as for instance inferring that Land Art (again
\ncapitalised, because it is a movement, not a technique) “is” a form
\nof Public Art, while the matter is widely debated in specialist papers, given
\nthat much Land Art is extractivist and paternalistic in principle. What’s more,
\nwhen citing an artwork such as Spiral Jetty it is fundamental to give the name
\nof the artist (Robert Smithson) and the year of installation!<\/span><\/p>\n

Ultimately,
\nthe case studies provided in the article must be real case studies, and not
\ngeneral introductions to some artists and artworks, and do not choose a
\nhistorical period that is far away from the beginning of public art and
\nsustainable development practices.<\/span><\/p>\n
