Analysis vs. Argument<\/span><\/u>: It doesn\u2019t matter whether you agree or
\ndisagree with the author.  <\/span>Your reader
\nshouldn\u2019t even be able to figure out your opinion on the writer or speaker\u2019s topic
\nby reading this paper.  <\/span><\/b>Evaluating a
\ntext’s rhetorical strategies does NOT mean saying whether or not you agree with
\nthe author\u02bc<\/span>s
\nposition<\/span>; it means paying
\ncareful attention to what the author is saying to his or her audience, how he
\nor she is saying it, who that audience is, what rhetorical strategies the
\nauthor is using, and whether or not you think the author\u02bcs rhetorical choices
\nare effective in this particular case. To break the text down that way, you
\nwill have to analyze rhetorical concepts such as purpose, audience, genre,
\npathos, logos, and ethos. You will also have to support your points with
\nexamples from the text and summarize the work you are writing about at the
\nbeginning of your paper. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Format<\/span><\/u>: Drafts should be typed in Times New Roman,
\n12-point font. They should also be double-spaced and formatted according to MLA
\nstandards. The only source you\u02bcll need to cite is the piece you choose to write
\nabout, but make sure to cite it properly in the text and in a works cited page.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
