In the age we live<br \/>\nin, people feel like they should have a voice. If a person was to take this<br \/>\naway, and start making decisions by themselves, the people the decisions affect<br \/>\nand even people not involved will join together and make your job and life<br \/>\nharder than it already is. While listening to public opinion is a long-term<br \/>\nbenefit, in my opinion, there are pros and cons that should be considered<br \/>\nduring this process. As mentioned, \u201cIn government, as in virtue, the hardest of<br \/>\nhard things is to make progress\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; line-height: 107%; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">(Shafritz, Hyde, 2023, p.40). While progress<br \/>\nshould be achieved as soon as possible, looking at problems from all&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; line-height: 107%; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">angles in<br \/>\nneeded. This includes getting public insight into issues which can allow for<br \/>\nviewpoints that a decision maker may never see. The community I work for is<br \/>\nvery diverse in the types of people and lifestyles. If a public administrator<br \/>\nhas never been around or tried to learn about the differences and was not open<br \/>\nminded to getting help with&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; line-height: 107%; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">decisions, the decisions made that were made with<br \/>\ngood intent could be detrimental to that part of the community. Using&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 10.5pt; background-color: var(--color-6); font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit;\">influence<br \/>\nand input from community members and other outside sources can help come up<br \/>\nwith decisions&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 10.5pt; background-color: var(--color-6); font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit;\">that embrace change and advancement that fit the needs of the<br \/>\nimpacted community and members. As mentioned though, public opinion does<br \/>\nprolong the process of making decisions as you will need to hear everyone\u2019s<br \/>\ninput and&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 10.5pt; background-color: var(--color-6); font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit;\">then tailor your decision using your own views and philosophy. This<br \/>\nis where the effectiveness starts to dissipate as some decisions are needed<br \/>\nquickly and wanting input from as many sources as you can get can sometimes not<br \/>\nbe a&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 10.5pt; background-color: var(--color-6); font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit;\">realistic way of decision making. Finding a balance between the two is<br \/>\ncrucial and can be the deciding factor on if&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 10.5pt; background-color: var(--color-6); font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit;\">you are an okay public<br \/>\nadministrator or a great one. My local communities are struggling with this<br \/>\ntopic as we speak. They are all small enough that public input is wanted, bit<br \/>\nbig enough where sometimes there is too much input and&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: auto; color: inherit;\"><span style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 10.5pt; background-color: var(--color-6); font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit;\">differences in opinions.<br \/>\nThis has caused many issues between government employees and elected officials<br \/>\nand the community.
