According to the National Institute of Mental Health (2023) \u201cSubstance use disorder (SUD) is a treatable mental disorder that affects a person\u2019s brain and behavior, leading to their inability to control their use of substances like legal or illegal drugs, alcohol, or medications\u201d (para 1). SUD of prescription drugs can lead to very bad health outcomes and this is a very big issue in adolescents causing them to lead to brain damage issues or even death from overdose. I plan to mainly focus on White females adolescents with SUD of Prescription medicines, such as pain pills, stimulants, or anxiety pills in New York State. This problem and population is of interest to me because working and growing up in The Bronx, either females my age or younger either come into my job as a patient with severe substance abuse disorder or I see them on the street. This makes me recognize how their lives just turned out very different from my own.
