In this week’s lesson we will be looking closely at Jesus’ divinity, more specifically we will see this in the incarnation. We see writer’s accounts of what they saw Jesus do, and what He said in the gospels. It is appropriate that we are approaching the Easter season, since we will be examining the resurrection. After this council, the question arose in increasing magnitude and importance: since Jesus is both fully human and fully divine, then how do we understand these two natures in relation to each other? Some theories were proposed, and subsequently rejected along the way to what we call the Chalcedonian Council in 451 AD.

1st. Read the section on unorthodox Christological formulations in our handout.
2nd. Then read the Chalcedonian Formulation.
3rd: Place yourself in the time of the Early Church.
