You may NOT write about a poem that is not on the reading list in the poetry module. <\/span>Do NOT write a full essay, or you will automatically receive a 0 in the format row of the rubric<\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Your evidence should come strictly from the poem and not from secondary research sources.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3.  The course\u2019s Open Resource\/PDF of the poems is the required and only source that should be used for this short paper. <\/span>If you use any additional source(s), you will be penalized 10 points<\/b>. You must cite the literature using MLA formatting. <\/span>The citation for your poem must appear on the Work(s) Cited page<\/strong>. In-text parenthetical citations must be properly used in the body of the essay. Please make sure to review the course syllabus for plagiarism reminders and policies prior to submitting your short paper.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4.  This short paper must include evidence from the text (quotes, paraphrases, and summaries) to support the question. All evidence should end with an in-text citation, including a summary and paraphrase, and in-text citations and works cited page are required.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Avoid personal references, such as \u201cI believe\u201d or \u201cI think.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. A short paper containing more than 30% of primary source material will earn a failing grade. (In other words, your paragraph should not be dominated by quotes from the poem; the main information will be your thoughts about the poem.)<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. This short paper must be formatted according to MLA guidelines, format (12 point, Times New Roman, left justification, double spaced, and indented paragraphs) with a heading (student’s name, instructor\u2019s name, course, and date) in the upper left corner of the first page. In the upper right-hand corner, insert a header with your last name and page number.<\/span><\/li>\n
