My name is Sharice Lacson and I am currently writing an Artist Statement for the 2024 Princess Grace Award. It is a cash prize for emerging artists. I am looking to write about how it doesn’t matter who you are, where you’re from, and how old you are, to become creative generators and make an impact on the world.  I am a first generation student as my parents were immigrants from the Philippines and live in an underreppresented community called Greenville in Jersey City, New Jersey. <\/span>I am 18 years old and currently a senior in high school studying film at the Ghetto Film School. I have attached essays that that I have written before for college admissions and I basically need all of them to be combined and made into an emotional, inspiration story about who I am as a person, why I want to make an impact on the world through art, how much visual storytelling (aka film) has made an impact on my life, and how I would utilize films to make an impact on other people’s lives. I have also attached a CV. I think the “Sharice Lacson – SVA Essay” document should be the thing closest to what this essay should look like and feel like. The Princess Grace Awards are for emerging artists, or artists at the onset of their careers. The Foundation looks to be a pivotal part of an artist\u2019s trajectory. As part of the selection panel\u2019s evaluation they may consider how the Princess Grace Award may help provide an opportunity and\/or propel the artist\u2019s career forward.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Evaluation of emerging in the application:<\/strong> <\/span>The selection panel expects there to be enough of a body of work that the \u201cpromise of extraordinary\u201d is evident but the artist is still at the beginning stages of their career. In its evaluation the selection panel considers the aggregate of the applicant\u2019s work, including any shifts or recent momentum.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Evaluation of extraordinary in application<\/strong>: In its consideration of the mission during the evaluation of Princess Grace Award applicants, the selection panel considers the promise and potential of the applicant to be extraordinary; evaluating \u201cextraordinary\u201d with a multi-prong definition: artistic intentionality, demonstration of technique in artistic practice, potential for innovation or impact of the artist on their field. Applicants are not expected to already be extraordinary but demonstrate the promise of extraordinary.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
