Students will select a topic covered in the Carter & McGoldrick text related to a <\/span>developmental crisis <\/span><\/span>faced by families. The student is expected to utilize the chapter text and two supplemental readings to elaborate the selected topic. <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Discuss how <\/span>assessment and intervention planning<\/span> <\/span>are impacted by the defined developmental crisis; how the selected developmental crisis impacts <\/span>engagement<\/span> <\/span>with families; and how you would integrate the selected crisis into your <\/span>practice evaluation<\/span>. You should emphasize some aspect of <\/span>diversity <\/span><\/span>in your presentation (e.g. economics, gender, race\/ethnicity, sexual orientation). Your <\/span>critical thinking<\/span> <\/span>skills can be demonstrated through selecting supplementary readings that challenge or critique the material from the text. You should also discuss ethical dilemmas and how to manage them.<\/p>\n

Each student will prepare a 1-2-page handout to accompany your oral presentation (Include the references used). Strive for a balance of presenting information, stimulating discussion, or other creative ideas to enhance your presentation.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Each student will submit a 3-4-page summary of the presentation utilizing the outline below:<\/p>\n

 (This summary will be required to be email to instructor)<\/u><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1.     <\/span>Identification of ethical dilemmas and how to appropriately respond to them <\/p>\n

2.     <\/span>Use of developmental theory, practice approaches, and family dynamic theory in application to assessment<\/p>\n

3.     <\/span>Application of the impact of cultural and social differences on response to developmental crises  <\/p>\n

4.     <\/span>Application of developmental crises concept to family situations to guide assessment and intervention planning <\/p>\n

5.     <\/span>Engagement with families for assessment, intervention planning, and evaluation of process and outcomes of practice activity<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Five (5) points available for each above item, each representing one or more practice behaviors (see rubric below)<\/p>\n

Ten (10) points available for the presentation<\/p>\n

Five (5) points available for well written summary<\/p>\n

Total points available = 40\/2 = 20%<\/p>\n
