Please write a 2-page literature review of your question. Include your revised bibliography (assignment #1) at the end. If any of the 20 papers you have are not working for you, you may replace them.
The goal of this assignment is to review the existing literature that is relevant to your research question and to concisely synthesize existing studies. Do NOT hand in a summary of the different articles that you have read. DO hand in a synthesis of all you have read.
- Please only include your name and research question at the top of the first page.
- You should reference 19-20 articles in your literature review. 10 points will be deducted from your grade if less than 19 papers are cited. If relevant, you may use the DSM5, but this counts as a bonus reference.
- The literature review should be divided into paragraphs. Each paragraph should have a statement of purpose and then supporting points.
- There may be multiple citations for the same sentence.
- Let the introductions (literature reviews) of your 20 papers be your guide
- Assignment must be in Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1” margins, and double- spaced. 5 points will be deducted for incorrect format.
- Please save your document as “First name last name 2”

Remember to ALWAYS define your term at the start of your literature review, in order to give the scope of the issue.
If possible, provide a statistic to give your reader the scope of the issue.
Cite all your sources. As mentioned in the course syllabus, plagiarism will result in the automatic failure of the course. Do not quote from the papers, but paraphrase and then cite.
Consider: What has been found about your topic? What are similarities found across the papers you are reading? What is left to be learned?

Following military service and participation in combat, anywhere from 2% to 17% of veterans in the armed forces are reported to suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD; Creamer, Wade, Fletcher, & Forbes, 2011; Richardson, Frueh, & Acierno, 2010; Solomon & Horesh, 2007). According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV), one of three possible symptom clusters typifies PTSD: intrusion, avoidance, and hyper-arousal (American Psychiatric Association, 1994). In the recently revised Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-V), the avoidance/numbing cluster has been divided into two distinct clusters: avoidance and persistent negative alterations in cognitions and mood (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
It has been documented that PTSD has significant repercussions within the veterans’ families, specifically impacting veterans’ marriages and their family members’ mental welfare (Renshaw, Rodrigues, & Jones, 2008; Riggs, Byrne, Weathers, & Litz, 1998). Indeed, two recent meta-analyses suggest that symptoms of PTSD are negatively associated with outcomes for the individual’s intimate partner (Lambert, Engh, Hasbun, & Holzer, 2012; Taft, Watkins, Stafford, Street, & Monson, 2011), and that spouses of war veterans with PTSD have higher levels of posttraumatic symptoms, anxiety, and depression (Beckham, Lytle, & Feldman, 1996; Calhoun, Beckham, & Bosworth, 2002; Evans, McHugh, Hopwood, & Watt, 2003) than do spouses of war veterans without PTSD. Research has also found that spouses of veterans with PTSD demonstrate lower quality of marital relations in comparison to spouses of war veterans without PTSD (Beckham et al., 1996; Dirkzwager, Bramsen, Adèr, & van der Ploeg, 2005).
