Need to write a documentary using these notes about
What are some challenges and triumphs of student athletes, exploring the balance between academics and athletics, time management, and pressure to succeed?
Questions to ask:
– How do you balance your academic work with the demands of your sport?
– What strategies do you use to manage your time effectively?
– Can you describe a typical day or week during your sports season? How long does this last?
– How do you prioritize your commitments when faced with conflicting deadlines or events?
– What resources or support system do you rely on to help you manage your workload ?
– How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals despite challenges or setbacks?
– What advice would you give to other student athletes struggling to balance academics and athletics?
– Does your team or coach support your academic goals if so how?
– How do you ensure you have enough time for rest/ recovery or time for yourself?
Interview Comments:
Hussein: 1) i have a set schedule that i follow everyday to get things done so i dont fall behind and i make sure i finish everything in class so that i can focus on sports, its student before athlete.
2) i make sure i have a goal, stick to a routine, having consistency helps develop habits, limit time wasters
3) I play year round so i dont really have days off whether I’m lifting, practicing or fundraising. I’m always doing stuff. I lift every morning, then I shower at the school, then go to school I make a protein shake, then go to my first period.
4) So if I’m ever in a scenario where i have a deadline for an assignment and i have practice or a game i make sure i communicate with my teacher to see if i can get an extension and if i cant then i make sure to do it when i get home or before practice.
5) i understand that i have teachers and resources in the school to help me so i cant be shy to ask for help and i reach out if i do need help
6) I control what I can control, meaning if i have a set back and it’s something i have control over i know i can make a change but if its something i dont have control over i try not stress over it.
7) The best advice I would give is time management, make sure you have time for school and sports, you have all day at school to do work 7 hours of laser focus on school isn’t real, taking breaks is okay but make sure that break isnt all day at school. Try to finish your work so you’re stress free.
8) yeah my academic goals are to pass all my classes and to graduate high school and go to college and continue my education.
9) im young i got my whole life to rest and heal up, sleep and the trainers is where i live, making sure i stay healthy during all seasons, finding time in the morning to stretch and taking ice baths. Most of all just sleep thats all you need.
How is your mental health with the sport that you do?
When coming back from practice or any other workout that I did, all i wanna do is just lay down and relax but i cant because i have other stuff to do such as school work. Self doubt can get in the way of my performance and it has made me want to quit at times. The pressure definitely gets to me at times. Yes because i know i could do alot better than im doing and i get in my head and
Person #2
1.) It’s hard to balance it because once you finish school at 3:30 I go straight to practice at 4 and don’t get home until 6. As soon as I get home I have to go pick up my brother from his soccer practice. I do school work from 10-12 and go to bed after. If not, I stay up to finish any school work sometimes even until 3 in the morning.
2.) I try to use all my class time to do homework. If not, I try to finish anytime when I have free time even if its just 20 minutes if not i just go on with my day and try to finish it afterwords
3.) I usually get dismissed at 2:15 from school for tennies. We arrive at the school we are gonna be competing at around 3, I warm up until I have my match at 4 and play after. The matches can take from an hour up to three hours depending on the score. After that we have to wait for everyone to finish their match to leave. I usually don’t get home until 8:30, and right after I shower, eat and do homework from 9-12. This routine is usually twice a week with my matches and practice the other days except weekends and it is from between March to May. I also cheer in the winter and fall, the schedule is similar but not as consistent as tennis. We only have practice twice a week, sometimes three and games every Friday.
4.) It depends on the assignment. For example if it’s an essay I can easily get that done as soon as I get back from my practice but if it’s a big project that is due I prioritize my work over my sport so if that means skipping practice I will just communicate with my coach because my grades are more important to me then my sports.
5.) I reply on reminders on my phone or write it down on a sticky note and put it on my computer to see and remind me what I need to get done.
6.) When I see that my grades are all A’s and B’s that makes me keep pushing. I do feel like my sport does get in the way of these goals. When I have a bad practice and I come home and I have to do homework right after I just thinking about what I did bad in practice and don’t get that rush of motivation to do any work.
7.) The advice I would give is to use all your time in class wisely, it’s hard when you push everything off so using all the time you have is key. If you need to miss practice for school that is completely fine.
8.) No, I feel like my coaches don’t really support my academic goals. They are really strict with missing practice making it harder when I have work to do to just not attend practice. They also don’t really care about grades and don’t check your grads during the season.
9.) I take my weekends to recover those are my rest days, usually spend them with family.
10.) It depends on the spot, cheer makes my mental health worse. That’s one of the reasons why I quit last year. With tennis I’m always having fun and I really enjoy it
Use this as an example:
These days, people type on phones or computers instead of writing with a pen and paper. As technology has become a big part of our daily lives, is it always better? Regarding this topic, I interviewed three teachers at my school to gather their opinions about the use of technology in school. From their years of teaching, they have been using pen and paper. As the years go we have advanced to using AI and technology to take notes or even write essays. The teachers I interviewed were Ms. Land, Mr. Wright, and Mr. Billington. All three of these teachers gave me their own opinions on what they think about this topic. Technology is now used more than pen and paper in everyday life, and this change has both good and bad effects on how we work, learn and communicate.
A major reason people prefer technology over pen and paper is because it’s faster and more convenient. I would like to bring up my first interviewer Ms. Land. She gave me her honest opinions about using technology such as AI instead of pen and pencil. “Technology has positives and negatives,” Ms. Land said as I asked her the question, how do you feel about technology being a norm instead of traditional pen and paper in school? She gave me her statement about technology having positives and negatives which could impact the ability for students to learn. WIth the use of AI she mentioned how it really takes the learning away from us since students can copy and paste things to certain assignments instead of fully completing them. A piece of evidence I would include is from the article AI in schools: Pros and Cons by office of communications, college education. In this article under the category Academic Misconduct I read how cheating and plagiarism are mentioned. If AI is used to complete assignments, exams, or write, it’s unfair to those who use their resources and don’t cheat. This also chips away at the education and learning of those who do cheat. With this information I can tie back to what Ms. Land said as I asked her a question about what she thinks the use of AI can lead to. She mentioned both good and bad aspects such as AI specifically chat GPT when used the wrong way such as making it do the work instead of putting the effort into the assignment can lead to the student not learning the right way. For a student to be using AI can lead to not succeeding in future assignments or big projects when using it the wrong way.if the student were to be using it as a way for AI to be doing their assignments the right way it can lead to better opportunities as they aren’t always relying on AI to be doing their assignments for them. When interviewing Ms. Land I was able to get a better understanding of how some teachers can see AI as a threat or as a good tool to be using. When looking into articles for my topic I was able to find one that talked about how AI can affect students ability to learn better. What this reveals about my interviewer is that I am able to get a clear answer on how AI has sorta made a good impact on us and how it made a bad impact as people aren’t using it as a good advantage and more of a bad advantage.
Another key aspect is how teachers view the impact of technology on student learning. Some believe typing assignments out can help with speed and organization, while others say writing helps more with improving your memory and focus. For my second interviewer I asked mr. billington to give me his opinions on how he feels about technology being used replacing pen and paper. As I interviewed Billington he gave me a pretty good answer on how using pen and paper can really help your brain a lot more than typing out an essay or assignment. As Billington stated “studies show how doodling while taking notes can be beneficial.” With this information I was able to realize how drawing or doodling while the teacher is lecturing can really help the students who struggle to pay attention in class. This ability has worked well for others since doodling can lead to memorization which is why some teachers encourage using a method called scribble study method. A specific example would be an article from simple studies called Benefits of Doodling while Learning and Studying. In this article I was able to read a section under specific doodles and from that article I was able to understand there is a common debate regarding what types of doodles should be used when you are studying. If there are specific doodles that take place when learning. And the true question is there really isn’t everyone has their own way of focusing when doodling. In this article they did mention how there should be one doodle to avoid when studying and that is specific doodles. What they mean by this is doodles that are specific such as a person or place or thing since this can really distract our minds from what we may be learning in class. When interviewing Mr. Billington I was able to get a better understanding of how students can focus more with pen and paper than with using a computer and typing. With this I can see how doodling can really help students to focus more in class and to get assignments done when the teacher is lecturing. As doodling is something that triggers the brain into focusing since you are just scribbling while listening to the lecture instead of it going into one ear and out the other. The use of writing in pen and paper can really help with note taking and learning the lecture better. WIth this interview with Mr. billington I was able to get a better understanding of how doodling can be more beneficial than the use of AI when it comes to lectures since this is something you can do with pen and paper rather than typing on a computer about what you learned that day.
People now use technology more than pen and paper in daily life, changing how we write, learn, and talk to each other. For my third paragraph I interviewed my third teacher Mr. Wright. He gave a clear explanation of how he thinks technology has affected our lives more than pen and paper as an English Language Arts teacher. I asked Mr. Wright the question if he thinks students will learn better with the use of technology or without it? He stated how there are benefits to the use of technology with assignments but it shouldn’t be your go to thing if you aren’t willing to put effort into doing the assignment. For example he did bring up how the use of tech such as AI can really take the creativity of students who have more of a chance without it. He did mention how he is scared of how the use of AI can really affect students in future generations since with the use of AI can make us become lazy. My third piece of evidence will be from my last article called Does using AI make me lazy? By Megan Carnegie in this article they talked about how in the UK the workers are frequently using AI for tasks such as writing and productivity, but many feel ashamed or fearful of judgement. Although the use of AI does have good benefits the lack of workplace support and clear guidelines builds anxiety. Experts say normalizing AI as a helpful tool and not a threat will ease concerns and make its use in the workplace routine. With this article I had a better understanding of how AI can make us feel ashamed for using it since people say it’s a place where people that are lazy to think will use it to get out of brainstorming. In reality AI can be really beneficial if used the right way. I truly believe if we use AI the right way we have a higher chance of saving the future generations from using it as only a place to get the answers to their assignments but to use it as a resource such as google to get more ideas and brainstorming to go on. Finally interviewing Mr. Wright I was able to get his point of view of the use of Technology in schools. As I finished interviewing him, he gave me a clear explanation on why he prefers pen and paper for the subject he teaches, which is ELA. This reason is because the amount of access we have to the internet when using computers and how using AI on computers can really take the learning away from us. From this interview I can take away the aspects of how teachers are struggling to get their students to reveal their true ability to brainstorm since AI has taken that job from the students. The frustration from Mr. Wright has come to my attention of how other teachers may feel about this as well since most teachers are having the same struggle.
My main point throughout all three interviews was to get a better understanding on how teachers feel about the use of technology instead of pen and paper. With the use of AI nowadays it really takes the learning away from us and sets us into a mindset where we aren’t able to focus in class. Whether it’s using a computer to type or writing in pen and paper there is a complete difference for students as using pen and paper can help us focus better in class rather than typing since typing can really take the learning away from us since we aren’t physically writing it down to memorize. When talking to all three teachers they explained their feelings towards technology being more normalized when it comes to assignments. From their years of teaching they had never thought the use of AI would have a huge effect on their students or how they teach. As known AI has taken over the world and has taken peoples jobs. With this all three teachers gave their input how they think AI can be beneficial to us but also taken the wrong way. Lastly, I would mention how certain teachers are afraid of how AI can be effective towards their students or even how we think or speak since AI can take your creativity away. Throughout these three interviews I was able to get the undertaking of how technology has really advanced throughout the years and how it has taken a toll on our learning. Even though the use of AI has taken over the world it has both good and bad benefits. I overall think the use of AI can be beneficial only when used the right way. With this I can see why teachers prefer pen and paper over technology because of the use of AI since it has been shown how students can’t really learn or understand better when using a computer and having access to the internet. As someone who would prefer using pen and paper since it has more of a beneficial chance of me learning better in class. Only to realize in college you won’t have that chance to really use paper and pen since everything is online nowadays due to the pandemic. Technology now is a normal part of life, while pen and paper still have value, the world is moving forward by one tap, not one page at a time.
