Charles Figley describes secondary traumatic stress as “the natural consequent behaviours and emotions resulting from knowing about a traumatizing event experienced by a significant other…The stress resulting from helping or wanting to help a traumatised or suffering person”(Figley 1995, p.7). Utilising relevant theories from the course evaluate the following question. Is PTSD or Secondary Trauma an inevitable outcome of frontline work?
In order to answer this question its important to use a deep analysis whilst factoring in and elaborating on the relevant theories below. And detail the research that has been looked at between PTSD and Secondary trauma on how it can be inevitable or evitable in frontline work.
