Through her installation piece “Quipu Womb,” Cecilia Vicuña reinterprets the traditional use and significance of the quipu in a postcolonial context, challenging colonial legacies and reclaiming indigenous knowledge systems. Vicuña bridges the traditional significance of the quipu in pre-Colombian Andean cultures with its contemporary relevance, highlighting its resilience during the colonial era and its continued significance today.
