Research for this paper is meant to be used to show that this is a topic of current interest
in your field. You should quote from your sources, but keep in mind the goal of the
assignment—to introduce a few possible topics in your field rather than go deeply in-
depth about them. Your goal is to show us that these topics are trending, and then to
direct us toward the research project.
The paper should begin with a discussion of the bigger field; it should move from there to
the trends in your field—perhaps some previous ones that you may know, then move into
the current trends, and finally your topic. Remember, you’re just going to introduce
the topic: how long has this been a trend in the field? How is it innovative/
challenging/radical? What makes it a good topic for this paper? What do you hope to
discover? Answering those questions is enough for what you discover through
introductory research and for establishing the focus of your final research project
