Assessment OverviewThis assessment requires you to prepare a protocol for a systematic review using the PRISMA forsystematic review protocols (PRISMA –P) guidance. It will enable you to demonstrate your understanding of different research and review methods and prepare you for the dissertation module. Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this mocule, you will be expected to be able to: Evaluate the differences between qualitative and quantitative research including examples of the different methodological approaches and methods of data collection and analysis used for each. Critically evaluate and synthesise knowledge of research methods, ethics and governance to inform best nursing practice. Critically evaluate and synthesise the available evidence and draw on experience to underpin logical and sound decision making. Demonstrate knowledge of research methods, ethics and governance to inform best nursing practice. Critically explore and synthesise the principles of quality improvement and audit, and how these strategies can be implemented. Develop an answerable research question using an appropriate framework. Design a replicable search strategy. Evaluate how ethical challenges have been addressed in evaluating a range of literature under review. Effectively use critical appraisal tools to critically analyse the quality of evidence available. Evaluate best available evidence and be able to assemble a well-constructed argument and rationale for those decisions with reference to informing policy or practice development. Critically discuss available strategies for the implementation of research findings and consider their relative strength and limitations. Critically evaluate the range of potential implications for the patient/user/carer of the development and implementation of evidence-based practice. Identify and analyse the ethical and moral concerns as well as possible economic and political issues in published research. Assessment DetailsFormative Assessment You will have an opportunity to submit formative work for review in support of the development of your protocol. Details will be provided on Moodle.Summative Assessment You will complete a 2000 word essay in the format of a protocol for a systematic review.There are four core sections to this essay, and then marks awarded for presentation and referencing.Choosing the Topic The topic you choose should be in an area which has a body of research literature, specificallyprevious empirical investigations published in peer-reviewed journals. Consideration needs to be given to the topic’s applicability, its feasibility, its appropriateness and whether it has currency as a problem or issue in clinical practice. The question or problem being explored needs to be clearly stated with a good rationale for its relevance and interest.Word Count 2000Your word count includes all words and characters that make up the body of your work. This includes any abstract, headings, tables, diagrams, quotations, citations and footnotes. It does not include the title of your work. It does not include the reference lists at the end of your work. It also does not include information contained in any appendices.
