Research in cultural clinical psychology: The difference in confrontation with mental health between Asian countries (Vietnam, China, Korea, Japan) and Western countries (America, Australia), and proposed techniques in counseling for Asian countries

Cultural-Clinical Psychology exists at the intersection of two academic traditions: cultural psychology and clinical psychology. This represents the evolution of a new field whereby by psychologists seek to understand the ways in which culture shapes mental and physical health and well-being. The overall objective of this research program is to develop a university-wide research team to investigate cultural clinical psychology with a view toward providing a meaningful integration of the fields of clinical psychology and cross-cultural psychology in the next five years. There continues to be a pressing concern on the part of various cultural groups for the availability of culturally appropriate services from clinical psychologists. Further, clinical psychologists have the responsibility to advance sound research on the role of culture in psychopathology and to promote culturally appropriate clinical training and ethical practice. The ultimate aims of this research program are the advancement of scientific knowledge, the development of sound professional practice, the amelioration of human suffering, and the promotion of quality of life to a global world
