Preventing Suicide Among Military Members and Veterans: Effective Assessment and Intervention Strategies

What are the most effective ways to prevent, assess, and intervene with military members or veterans who are at high risk for suicide?

Step 2: Write a paper summarizing the known research-based literature addressing your selected question/topic. The paper will cite and reference at least 10 documented scholarly journal articles to support the student’s responses to their question/topic. The paper will address the following components:

1. The nature of the issue/need/problem is well-developed

2. Statistics/facts are presented that illustrate the extent of the issue/need/problem

3. The causes of the issue/need/problem are presented clearly and logically with evidence drawn from research-based journal articles.

4. The people affected by the issue/need/problem are thoroughly described.

5. Available treatment approaches or interventions to address the issue/need/problem are described in detail. This includes a description of the effectiveness of available interventions/approaches for addressing the issue/need/problem.

6. Unique cultural issues of working with this population to include common strengths and challenges involved in addressing the issue/need/problem with military members and their families.

Grades for this assignment will be assigned on the following rubric:

1. Professional, graduate-level writing, including appropriate grammar, spelling, and APA style (more than 3 errors will result in decreased points in this area) (5 pts)
