Reflection, Critique, and Synthesis
Final Entry (4-5 pages not including references to both textbooks)
This final entry will summarize the entire policy process and, as observed, critique its strengths and weaknesses in helping analyze your policy. Students will:
Evaluate the Policy Process; Was the process effective in addressing the problem at hand? Consider both the successes and failures of current policy. What did the process teach you about the balance between theory and practice?
Critique the Policy Process: Reflect on what was missing or could have been improved on the process (considering the framework and real-world limitations). Were there ethical or systemic issues that were overlooked? How might different stakeholders have approached the process differently?
Personal Insights and Development: What have you learned about the policy process as a current and future policymaker or analyst? What have you discovered about your perspective of public policy in general? If you were to approach a policy issue from the ground up, how might your understanding from the coursework influence your strategy or decisions?
Reflection Prompts:
ยท How did your understanding of the policy process evolve over the course of the term? In what ways?
ยท What aspects of the policy process most influence your views and values?
ยท How would you approach a policy issue differently now, having gone through this reflection process?
What Professor wants: Reflective critique synthesis piece. Retrospective: Now that I’ve done this, let me speak to what I’ve learned from it. What contributed, if anything. How reflective and effective are the model steps that are implemented. The paper should be a reflection based on experience..Make it personal and professional.
