Refer to Level 7 Written Assessment marking criteria.
· Identify an area from within Clinical Practice, where leadership/change has or could contribute to the improvement in quality of care and safety
· Reference list to be included.
· However,the chosen area must not be the focus of the Assessment.
Expectation of written Critical analysis:
· Introduction:
· Identify the chosen area and present the context for the chosen area.
· There may be several issues within the chosen area; it is advisable to identify one or two areas which enables you to explore the issues in depth and breadth. Provide a clear signpost of your critical analysis so the reader/marker is clear. Identify how you would address the learning outcomes of the module.
1. Main body: Incorporate the principles of Leadership and Change Management as well as other core areas from the Module to demonstrate knowledge acquisition, understanding, application. Please refer to the Module descriptor for the Learning Outcomes.
· Utilise the research-based evidence to support your critical analysis.
· Keep the analysis within a structured flow to allow progression of ideas in a logical manner. (Refer to guidance from the relevant Lecture on Level 7 writing).
· Critically analyse how Leadership/Change has or could contribute to the improvement in quality of care and safety
· Think about the characteristics of a good Leader and how they influence change.
· Change Management theories to enable change.
· Importance of Human Factors, Quality improvement and Safety
· Think about the importance of Communication skills and decision-making skills: reflection, self-awareness, personal and professional values, to name but a few areas. This is not an exhaustive list.
· Consider research, involvement of service users in the change process, risk management, evidence-based practice, culture safety, unconscious bias, the role of the midwife in clinical investigation, escalation of concerns, incident reporting, human factors, appropriate delegation in relation to service Etc.
· Think about government reports, policies and guidelines (local, national, international as it applies).
· Implications for practice and recommendations
· Conclusion: Summarise your critical analysis. An overall summary.
· Identify key statements from the Introduction and from each paragraph within the main body to bring together the critical analysis assessment.
· Do not introduce new information into the Conclusion.

· Number each page.
· A front sheet is required stating the Module number and name, your student number, Cohort, Programme, Assessment title.
· Assessment must be typed.
· Advised to use Arial 12.
· Double space paragraphs.
· Do not attach any policies or guidelines to this assessment.
· Use the Harvard Reference System within text and reference list. Double check references within text and list to ensure they match.
· Must be within 3000 words. Any writing beyond this will not be read or graded.
