This competency assessment assesses the following Outcome(s):
NU502M2-2: Discover models of practice and theory as they pertain to the advanced practice nursing role.
Three Models Used in Practice
In this assignment, you will complete an essay in Word:
- Provide an introductory paragraph related to nursing application of other discipline’s models, theories or frameworks. Complete the essay by addressing one model at a time fully.
- Identify 3 non-nursing models/ theories, one from each category, and provide 6-10 relevant characteristics, summarizing each:
- General or Behavioral Model
- Learning Theory or Model
- Leadership/ Management Theory or Model
- Next apply each model to an advanced nursing role. Select a different advanced role for EACH model /theory,
- choosing either NP practice, education, leadership/management or research.
- Apply 5 or more characteristics of each model you have identified to the nursing role you chose and provide an example.
- Finish with a conclusion on your findings, addressing the content and application of nursing and non- nursing theories to advanced practice roles.
Assessment Requirements

- Utilize spelling and grammar check to minimize errors.
Your writing assignment should:
- 3 –4 pages of content (no more than 5 pages), not including the title, and reference pages and one appendix.
- Use five (5) credible sources of support are required.
- Follow the conventions of Standard English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.).
- Be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful.
- Display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics.
- Use APA 7th edition format. Utilize Academic Writer to format your paper for you. It can help with reference formation as well. This is a very useful tool. Practice and try it!.
- This paper does not require a running header, key words or abstract.
- Level one headings within the paper are encouraged at a masters level writing assignment. APA Headings and Seriation – Purdue OWL
- Do not create your own format or hybrid of others. APA is the standard.
It is necessary for you to demonstrate APA format to master objectives in this course and future courses, as you move forward. Using the tools in the Web Resources, particularly Academic Writer, in the readings, and others found at the Purdue writing center such as tutors will help.
If the work submitted for this competency assessment does not meet the minimum submission APA formatting requirements, it will be returned for revision. If the work submitted does not meet the minimum submission formatting requirements by the end of the term, you will receive a failing score.
Minimum Submission Requirements
- Proper notification of any resubmission, repurposing, or reworking of prior work per the Purdue Global Student Coursework Resubmission, Repurposing, and Reworking Policy Resource.
- This assessment should be a Microsoft Word (minimum 3-4 pages) document, in addition to the title and reference pages.
- Provide a minimum of five (5) sources of support.
- Respond to the questions in a thorough manner, providing specific examples of concepts, topics, definitions, and other elements asked for in the questions. Your submission should be highly organized, logical, and focused.
- Your submission should provide a clearly established and sustained viewpoint and purpose.
- Your writing should be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful.
- Your submission must be written in Standard English and demonstrate exceptional content, organization, style, and grammar and mechanics.
- A separate page at the end of your submission should contain a list of references in APA format. Use your textbook, the Library, and the internet for research.
- Be sure to include references for all sources and to cite them using in-text citations where appropriate. Your sources and content should follow current APA citation style. Review the writing resources for APA formatting and citation found in Academic Tools. Additional writing resources can be found within the Academic Success Center.
If the work submitted for this competency assessment does not meet the minimum submission requirements, it will be returned for revision. If the work submitted does not meet the minimum submission requirements by the end of the term, you will receive a failing score.
