The focus of this paper is research, so you must research to gather information to use in your paper.
Choose a debatable or controversial issue in your career field. Then, explore that issue and recommend a solution. This is a problem/solution paper. For example, if you are majoring in nursing, the quality of nursing in nursing homes is an issue; it is difficult to get adequate staff for nursing homes. You would explore this issue and then propose a solution. If you don’t have a chosen career field yet, you may choose any field that interests you as a possible career.
Here are other parameters for your paper:
- Your paper should be in MLA style, including formatting and source citations, unless you tell me you want to use APA style.
- Your paper should be 5 to 7 pages in length.
- Your paper should be less than 25 percent quoted material. You will see this when you submit your paper in the assignment drop box; if your score is more than 25 percent, you have more than 25 percent quoted material. If that occurs, revise and put more ideas in your own words (but still cite the source) and resubmit your paper in the assignment drop box.
- NOTE: All papers must go through peer review before I will accept the final draft per our course syllabus.
- Remember, you signed an honor pledge when you signed the syllabus stating you had read and understood the course syllabus. I will penalize instances of plagiarism. If you have questions about citing sources, be sure to ask!
- Review the syllabus for the due date of the final paper.
- Political topics are topics around which people are polarized according to political party (Democrat, Republican, etc.). Such topics include the border wall, immigration, abortion, gun control, charter schools, etc. It is impossible to find true academic sources to support issues such as these. Students should avoid arguing any topic from the perspective of one political party.
Here are the parameters for your sources:
- All sources MUST come from the NKU library
- You must use 5 sources from academic journals in the library
- Remember to cite at least once from these sources in-text in each supporting paragraph, and include all sources on a Works Cited page at the end of your paper in MLA documentation style. This is a very important part of your paper and is weighted heavily in the grading rubric.
