Module 2 Discussion: Hospital Readmission and Hospital-Acquired Conditions – The Financial Impact

If you are not working for a hospital, look up your nearby hospital. (USE NEW JERSEY (EAST ORANGE GENERAL HOSPITAL, east orange NJ)
Report on the following:
- Click on the Readmission tab. Examine the readmission rate trend from 2020 to the present. What does this data convey about the organization’s ability to reduce readmission rates?
- Click on the Hospital-Acquired Conditions tab. Has the organization been penalized for hospital-acquired conditions from 2020 to the present? What type of costs do you perceive that the organization might incur related to the hospital-acquired conditions (HACs) shown on the KFF site?
- What impact might the penalties associated with HACs have on the organization?

Discussion Board/Participation Instructions:
- The discussion board posts will constitute the class participation portion of the final grade.
- The Discussion board will start on Monday at 8 am and end on Sunday at 11:59pm EST.
- Read all materials and submit first/Initial post by Thursday by 11:59pm EST. Respond to peers and faculty no later than Sunday by 11:59pm EST.
- During this course, students are expected to discuss ideas with others. Students are also expected to facilitate and share with other course participants. The discussions will demonstrate active involvement with the material covered. Students will have a shared responsibility for learning, and for creating and sustaining the learning community within the context of this course. See the weekly discussion board grading criteria.
- Students are to discuss issues in an effort to increase everyone’s understanding of the issue, as opposed to a regurgitation of the of the facts. Elaborate upon the concepts, share experiences and knowledge, support posts with evidence.
- Discussion should show evidence of having read the textbook and other assigned sources. Comments should not be isolated or disjointed–demonstrates synthesis and application of the topics. Communication skills such as good listening is evident in well thought out discussions. Comments show evidence of a thorough reading and analysis of the material assigned. Ideally, there is a willingness to test new ideas rather than offer only cautious or ‘safe’ comments. Students may interact with other class members by asking questions or challenging conclusions.
- Brings appropriate outside evidence and materials into the discussion.
- All CANVAS contributions and posts must be posted into the designated Forum. Type your responses into Discussion Forums and other CANVAS course sites. Otherwise, your entries/posts will not translate to the Canvas Grade Book.
- Do not copy and paste from a website, this is considered plagiarism and will be treated as such. Paraphrasing is acceptable with appropriate citation.
- Direct quotes from an author’s work should be put in quotations, with the relevant page or paragraph number in APA format. Your summary of quotes is more meaningful than extensive quotes. At the end, include any references. A link is not considered a reference; write out the author or association and peer reviewed journal with the electronic URL using APA for electronic references.
- There is no set number of posts required for this course. Discussion board posts will be evaluated on quality and not quantity. For most weeks you must post a comment before being able to see others’ comments.
- For your initial post, please respond to each question listed. Please respond by addressing each question/item individually.
