Research Article Critique
This research article critique is designed for you to demonstrate your knowledge about a topic in cognitive psychology and your college level APA writing ability. As upper division students taking an advanced psychology class, it is expected of you to show proficiency in analyzing, critiquing, and formulating ideas when given a topic. You will also be required to follow basic APA (7th ed) formatting rules for this assignment. This short paper (10 pages max; including title page and references) is meant to assess these two facets. For this paper, you will select one cognitive principle, effect, finding, or theory that you find particularly interesting. For your topic, you are be expected to gather at least five research articles from peer-reviewed journals, books, and online resources to be cited using APA 7th edition formatting requirements. Your textbook and class lectures may not serve as one of your 5 sources, but may be a starting point for identifying research papers for your topic.
Although I recommend all psychology majors acquire a copy of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association: 7th Edition for reference, there are many online APA formatting resources available (Purdue Owl APA StyleLinks to an external site.)
In your research critique you should include a(n):
- Title page
- Introduction: In the introduction you should include the specific topic that you have chosen to examine and discuss. Provide an explanation of why you chose this topic including the significance of this topic in everyday living.
- Literature Review: Include a literature review that examines past research on your topic. Discuss past research, what they did in their research (methodology), and what they found (results and discussion). Explain how each article contributes to what we know concerning your topic. You must have at least 5 cited articles. Make sure the references are properly cited in APA format. All of the references cited in the literature review must appear on the reference page. Make sure that there are NO quotations and that you have not plagiarized; paraphrase what you have read.
- Critique of Research/ Future Directions: In this section you should provide a critique of the research you discussed. (i.e., Could they use a different methodology? Did they adequately answer their research question? What questions are left to be answered?). Conclude by discussing what is missing from the literature that we should study next.
- Reference page: Your references need to include all sources cited in your paper. Needs to follow APA 7th ed formatting guidelines.
I have attached the rubric as well as a file on what I have so far, included sources. DO NOT USE AI!!!! I got flagged on my last paper which is why I am writing this one (last paper was on a completely different subject).
Honestly all you have to do is rewrite what I have so it will pass my schools AI checker.
