This part of your final assignment (guideline 700 words, maximum 800 words) contains: • Front page with title, the course title, own name, student number, name of tutor, group number • Introduction (guideline 250 words) o You outline the research question, use at least two articles to support two hypotheses. o The two hypotheses each need to describe the association between two predictors and one quantitative outcome variable. ▪ One hypothesis should be about a quantitative predictor of the quantitative outcome (the second predictor serves as control variable or moderator and can be quantitative or categorical. However, we advise to choose a quantitative covariate/moderator so you can finish this analysis by the end of week 3.) ▪ One hypothesis should be about a categorical predictor of the quantitative outcome (the second predictor serves as control variable or moderator and can be quantitative or categorical) • Method (guideline 450 words) o Give a description of the study according to APA-guidelines. This consists of: ▪ Sample characteristics (incl. study procedures) ▪ Materials ▪ Statistical analyses • References (not included in the word count!) Important: • You only need to describe the materials (i.e., measures) you used to test your two hypotheses. • Select analysis procedures that match your research question and the measurement level of your variables, and report these so that these can easily be replicated. • This assignment will not be graded, but you can already check the Rubric of the final assignment to inspect the grading criteria for these elements of your final assignment. This part of your final assignment (guideline 700 words, maximum 800 words) contains: • Front page with title, the course title, own name, student number, name of tutor, group number • Hypotheses (not included in word count for Practice Assignment 3) o Include your two hypotheses so your peers and tutor can check if these align with your results. • Methods – Data-analysis (not included in word count for Practice Assignment 3) o Include the data-analysis subsection of the Methods, so your tutor can check if the description of the analyses aligns with your hypotheses and with the analyses you performed. • Results (guideline 400 words) o Here you provide the descriptive and inferential statistics that helped you test your hypotheses. Also pay attention to checking of assumptions. o For each hypothesis, you write a separate results paragraph. o Write the result section according to the APA-guidelines (See APA manual and the guidelines in this work book). o Describe in words, the meaning of the results for every tested hypothesis. o Create 1 APA-style table and 1 APA-style figure which describe your main findings and include these in your results section • Discussion (guideline 300 words) o Write a conclusion in which you summarize the most important results and review your hypotheses. o Use at least two methodological discussion points to discuss your results critically. For example, consider alternative explanations for (unexpected) results or discuss limitations of the study. o Discuss the implications of your study for future research, scientific theory and/or practice. • References (not included in the word count!) Important: • Make sure you only include statistics that relate to your hypotheses. This assignment will not be graded, but you can already check the Rubric of the final assignment to inspect the grading criteria for these elements of your final assignment. Also upload your analysis files on Canvas. These attachments will be used by fellow students and the tutor to verify that the analyses were done properly. NOTE: only attach relevant output that relates to testing your hypotheses. All reported results (descriptive and inferential) must be present in your analysis files. SPSS users: syntax and output, pasted into a separate .docx document (so no SPSS files or screenshots!)
The final assignment is a complete, though short research report containing an Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion section, and references. For descriptions and guidelines, see Practice assignment 2 and 3 above. Important: • Is everything included? Use the checklist in the tutorial slides and the Rubric of the final assignment (see below). • Also upload the SPSS syntax and output, pasted in a separate .docx document or the export of your JASP results as .htlm file (thus no JASP or SPSS files). These attachments will be used by to check if the analyses are performed well. NOTE: only attach relevant output, which relates to testing your hypotheses. All reported results (descriptive and inferential) should be present in your analysis files. • The maximum number of words is 1600 words (front page, tables, figures and references excluded). The word limit will be applied strictly. All the text that exceeds this limit won’t be taken into account for the grading.
