Assessment Description
Due date: 07/01/25
Special education teachers are leaders in their schools and are often called upon as a source of information for trends and issues related to special education. Interacting with professional organizations and publications is one of the many steps special education teachers can take to stay current about special education issues and trends so they are better able to advocate for and support students with exceptionalities and their families.
Using the topic Resources and your own research, identify a current special education issue or trend that is important to successful professional practice. Topics to explore could include intervention and instructional strategies, technology innovations, IDEA/IEP compliance and policies, innovative educational practices, etc. Be sure to research and consider the philosophical, historical, and sociological influences related to the issue/trend you have selected.
Select a specific audience for the podcast (special education teachers, general education teachers, families of students with exceptionalities, etc.). Create a 4-5 minute podcast about the selected topic and complete the “Special Education Trends and Issues Podcast” template as directed.
Support the podcast with a minimum of three scholarly resources.
Remember that video and audio quality are important and should be taken into consideration. Ensure your podcast is filmed with sufficient lighting and that the volume is adequate for viewers/listeners to hear. Intonation, expression, proper speech, and professional attire are expected.
Refer to “Recording, Editing, and Uploading a Video or Podcast” and use an online platform such as Zoom, Loom, YouTube, or Vimeo to upload your completed podcast. If you upload your podcast to YouTube, select the “unlisted” option.
Submit the “Special Education Trends and Issues Podcast” template. Ensure that others can access the podcast link prior to submission.
