Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, read Chapter 15 of the textbook. (HELLO WRITER, CHAPTER 15 IS ATTACHED TO THIS ORDER.)
There are six dimensions of cultural differences evaluated in Chapter 15, beginning with Table 15.1 and ending with Table 15.6. The six dimensions of culture are then summarized in Figure 15.1. After a careful review of Chapter 15, discuss and defend the following:
- Describe the challenges of OD in a global environment.
- Analyze one of the six dimensions that you comprehensively understand.
- Evaluate one of the six dimensions that you struggle to understand.
- Define the most challenging of the six dimensions of the OD Consultant.
Your initial post must be specific, significant, and at least 300 words. You must support your post with at least two credible resources in addition to the course text to defend your knowledge of global cultural differences.

Describe the challenges of OD in a global environment.
Organizational development (OD) is a critical and science-based process that helps organizations build their capacity to change and achieve greater effectiveness by developing, improving, and reinforcing strategies, structures, and processes (Anderson, 2020). Challenges associated with OD in a global environment come from differences in culture. Difference in the organizations culture might affect the changes that OD have identified and recommended for change.
Analyze one of the six dimensions that you comprehensively understand.
Uncertainty Avoidance might be the one of the six dimensions that I understand the best. Anderson (2020), uncertainty avoidance is defined as the extent to which the members of a culture feel threatened by ambiguous or unknown situations. Additionally strong uncertainty-avoiding countries appreciate laws, policies, and regulations that dictate standards of behavior and control employee rights. This is much like the military which is governed by policies and procedures that guide personnel in the direction needed.
Evaluate one of the six dimensions that you struggle to understand.
Individualism–Collectivism is one of the six dimensions that I struggle to understand. Anderson (2020) defines individualist societies as those in which the ties between individuals are loose: everyone is expected to look after him- or herself and his or her immediate family. Management in individualist cultures is management of the person, whose skills and abilities are rewarded if performance is high, regardless of the individual’s family background or memberships.
Anderson (2020), explained that in collectivist societies workplaces, individual relationships are important. Employment relationships and decisions are made on the basis of the employee’s ingroup memberships, but employee evaluations are less likely since termination may be less frequent.
Define the most challenging of the six dimensions of the OD Consultant.
In my opinion the most challenging of the six dimensions of the OD consultant would be short term orientation as it values, the organization’s present financial success is most important, and managers may be punished for failing to achieve immediate results. Change will take time, and results might not be immediate, some changes will require restructuring, training and a shift in the organization’s culture. Short term orientation my limit the amount of change possible due to the limited time frame allowed for change.
