Your proposal must provide the following information:
1. About you. Tell us about the person behind the project. Who are you? Why are you interested in this topic? What skills, knowledge, insight do you bring to the project? What are you hoping to learn along the way?
2. Big picture, theme statement, vision. Try to sum up your project as a whole.
3. The problem, the crisis, the complication. What is it? Why is it important to look at this particular issue?
4. The research. How have you gathered data about this issue? What material have you looked at? How will this help you better understand the problem?
5. The story so far. How have you gone about gathering information? What sources, concepts or research methods are you working with? What have you found out and what are you still looking for? Have there been any challenges? You must document and demonstrate your work to date.
6. Audience and reach. Who needs to know about what you’ve researched? Who is the target audience for your final portfolio? Be as specific as possible (e.g., is your audience a key demographic, a type of professional, is what you are making intended to be in the style of a certain content creator or publisher?).
7. Portfolio progress. Share examples of portfolio assets in development. For example, this may include initial data collected, written excerpts, drafts, mood boards, inspirational images, images from video rushes or key quotations. This should demonstrate good progress to date on completing the necessary research and thinking about how to best present it.
8. What next? What is left to do now? Provide a detailed and realistic timeline to completion by the due date.
9. All of the above must be communicated in the slides. They need to speak for themselves—no embedded videos or animation, and limited text on the slides.
