· The title of your final paper essentially summarizes your argument into a few key words.
Title of Your Paper
Your Name
Structure of text:
- Introduction: This is similar to your abstract and it includes your thesis.
- Review of Previous Scholarship: This is an integrated and revised version of your Literature Review.
- Body: Distinguish your perspective from previous arguments. Make sure you use relevant evidence and draw on other sources to strengthen your argument.
- Conclusion: The conclusion re-states your argument, and even at times offers ideas for future projects which are related to your paper but outside of its scope.
- Citations: Properly formatted footnotes and a properly formatted bibliography of at least 7 scholarly sources. A bibliography includes everything you have read while preparing your paper, even if you did not use the source directly.Footnotes + bibliography do not count toward paper length/word count.
- Neatness: You will be deducted 5% points if the formatting is ‘excessively sloppy.’ By this I mean: different fonts and/or font-sizes throughout the body of the essay (except for footnotes/endnotes which can be in a smaller font-size than the body of the text, but they still need to be neat and properly formatted), weird margins that place text on only half the page, essays with no name or other identifying information, etc. These are all examples of ‘excessively sloppy’ papers that have been received in the past. Summarily: Keep it neat.
