What you need to do:
- Go to the Hawaii State Legislature website.
- Find two housing-related bills (for example: bills about affordable housing, tenant protections, homelessness, etc.).
- Track each bill: meaning you will copy down:
- The bill number (example: HB1492 or SB2055),
- A short description of what the bill is about (1–2 sentences is enough).
Then:
- Write a short testimony for each bill.
- Say whether you support or oppose the bill and explain why (one short paragraph is enough for each testimony).
2. Newspaper Community Letters Regarding Housing Issues (10% total)
What you need to do:
- Find a recent newspaper article about a housing issue (for example: homelessness, affordable housing shortage, rising rent prices, evictions, etc.).
- Based on the article, you have two choices:
- Write two short opinion letters (each 150 words or less)
3. Civil Beat or National Newspaper Response on Affordable Housing Policy
What you need to do:
- Find an article from Civil Beat (civilbeat.org) or a national newspaper (like the New York Times, Washington Post, etc.) that talks about affordable housing public policy.
- Write a short response paragraph giving your opinion about the article.
