Your research proposal should be about 300 words long. It must include a title and a central research question. The remainder should outline the nature of the project, your methods, and some of the issues you will be addressing.
Your bibliography must contain at least twelve items of modern scholarship (at least 6 books, and at least 6 articles or chapters in collections). Ancient sources, textbooks, web resources, etc. do NOT belong in the bibliography. It must be correctly formatted: see the Ancient History Essay Guide posted in the Material for Assignments section. (The Guide should also be followed when writing your paper.)
Your paper will normally be between 5000 and 6000 words long (including notes and bibliography). The bibliography (or list of works cited) that you include with your paper should include every work of scholarship that you refer to in the paper and does not have to be identical with the bibliography that you submitted in January.
