Evidence Informed Mental health and Indigenous Health Knowledge and Healing Practices Advocacy Assignment Guidelines
- A mental health topic will be assigned to you. Provide a brief overview of this topic
- Identify your geographical area/community you reside in (needs to be clearly identified). Make sure to describe the demographics of your community and relate it with your topic.
- Identify 2 community resources available within your geographical area (except Local community hospital in units/out patient or online help services ie telehealth) that can be used to help treat/support a client with the mental health topic you have been assigned. These must be located within 20km of where you live.
- Describe the services they provide and clearly explain how these resources/services you have identified would be beneficial/support patients with your assigned topic.
- For your assigned topic utilize evidence based literature to explore 1 of the following:
- Describe one of the following: psychosocial OR cultural OR spiritual consideration in your community. Clearly identify which one you are discussing in regards to your assigned topic.
- As a student nurse identify 2 evidence–based nursing interventions (NI) using scholarly research articles that you could implement to care for a client with your assigned mental health topic & give the rationale for each NI.
- These need to be NI that you as a student nurse could implement in caring for a client with your assigned topic..
- You must use 2 different scholarly journal articles to support the 2 evidence-based nursing actions/intervention you identify (1 for each NI).
- For the indigenous Canadian population utilize evidence based literature to explore 1 of the following:
- Describe one of the following: psychosocial OR cultural OR spiritual consideration. Clearly identify which one you are discussing in regards to this population.
- Identify & describe 1 indigenous healing practice and the benefits of its use related to mental health in the indigenous population. You must support this with an evidence based scholarly journal article.
- Ensure you clearly identify and describe 1 specific healing practice.
- All papers are to be written in APA style and be no more than 4 Pages excluding title page and reference sheet.
- Evidence based scholarly references must be less than 5 years old
- Ensure you include a title page, page numbering, proper formatting and headers are required
- Ensure proper in text citations and reference list citations based on APA including journal articles
