Create a poster about a Supreme Court case that
raised the issue of judicial restraint or judicial activism. The poster will
include the title of the case, the year it was heard in the Supreme Court, a
summary of relevant facts of the case, the Constitutional question or issue in
the case, arguments for each side, and the Court’s opinion and reasoning as
well as any dissenting opinions if applicable. If you create a physical
poster, please make sure you take a clear picture of it (multiple pictures if
needed). You can also create a digital poster—please convert it to PDF
for easier viewing.
With this project, you should be able to answer
the following questions:
1. A judge’s belief in a philosophy of judicial
activism or judicial restraint often determines decisions on policy that are
made by the court. Governmental legislation, policies, and court decisions
have facilitated cultural changes in the United States. In what ways have
major court decisions brought about cultural changes in the United States?
2. How does judicial activism and judicial
restraint relate to cultural changes in the United States?
