Design a functional behavior assessment to identify the function of a socially-significant target behavior by using functional analysis, descriptive, and indirect assessment procedures and Analyze functional behavior assessment data

Your Unit 9 Assignment consists of a team component and several individual components. See below for complete instructions for each component. Your team assignment may be made based on the case that you selected for your Unit 6 Assignment. One Unit 6 case study will be used as the foundation for the Unit 9 Assignment. First, your team will design a set of FBA procedures to identify the function of one of the behavioral excesses listed in the case study. Then, based on the assessment plan that your team develops, you will individually complete the provided FBA template. You will make up and graph your own set of hypothetical data from each section of the FBA and present the results of the complete FBA in a PowerPoint that will be presented via Kaltura. Your presentation should be written and narrated as if you were presenting your assessment results to parents or teachers or other caregivers who are not trained in ABA. Finally, you will complete an evaluation of your teammate’s contributions during the completion of the team component. Throughout all of the components, be sure to use the materials provided in previous units and peer-reviewed, behavior analytic resources to demonstrate that your selections, procedures, and/or assumptions in each section are based on relevant research literature and best practice standards.

  • Is having an increase in behavioral issues on the job:
    • Frequently late to work
    • Noncompliant with supervisor requests

    • Can become verbally aggressive toward supervisor and coworkers
    • Personal hygiene issues and showing up for work in dirty clothes, with body odor, and unkempt appearance

Required Sections:

  1. [TEAM] Functional Behavior Assessment Procedures: Design a set of FBA procedures to identify the function of one of the behavioral excesses listed in your assigned case study. The procedures must include an indirect assessment, a direct assessment, a functional analysis, a skills assessment, and a preference assessment. Select the procedures to be used for each type of assessment according to the information provided in the case study as well as relevant research literature and best practice standards. Include technical descriptions of all procedures to be used and why the specific assessments chosen would be the best option for the client. Review appropriate safeguards that should be in place to ensure that the FBA is conducted in an ethical and culturally responsive manner. The focus for the team portion of the assignment is on the procedures and the theoretical reasoning for your selection of the assessment procedures. This will be outlined as your plan for conducting the assessments and should be presented in future tense. Please note: you MUST include a functional analysis in your FBA, so please select your behavior accordingly.
  2. [INDIVIDUAL] Functional Behavior Assessment Hypothetical Data and Summary: Pretend that the procedures designed in the first component have now been conducted. Complete the FBA template that is provided using hypothetical data that you create for each of the assessment components (indirect assessment, descriptive assessment, functional analysis, skills assessment, and preference assessment). After you have completed the FBA template provided, use that information to design a PowerPoint to present the summary of data for each assessment procedure as well as an overall summary of the hypothetical function(s) of behavior. Identify the variable(s) likely responsible for the maintenance of the behavioral excess and explain how you came to that conclusion. Then you will make a Kaltura video of yourself presenting your PowerPoint and your results. This presentation should be written and narrated to explain the results of an assessment for consumers who are not trained in ABA (ex. teachers, parents, etc.)

You will submit each of the following:

  1. An 8–10-page team assignment (not including the title and reference pages) submitted by one agreed upon team member, including all team members’ names.
  2. Completed FBA Clinical Document (from template provided).
  3. A narrated Kaltura video presentation of your individual FBA Hypothetical Data and Summary PowerPoint.

Your written team assignment should include the following elements:

  • Title page: Provide your name, title of assignment, course and section number, and date.
  • Body: Answer all the questions in complete sentences and paragraphs.
    • Your responses should reflect professional writing standards, using proper tone and language. The writing and writing style should be correct and accurate, and reflect knowledge of skills and practice in the Psychology profession.
  • Reference page: Sources listed in APA format.
    • Include a minimum of three of the materials provided in previous units and/or peer-reviewed, behavior analytic resources from the Purdue Global Library to demonstrate that your selections, procedures, and/or assumptions in each section are based on relevant research literature and best practice standards.
  • Use Arial or Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced and left-aligned.
  • Use standard 1″ margins on all sides.
  • Use APA formatting and citation style.

Your individual assignment should include the following elements:

  • The completed FBA template
  • Title slide: Provide your name, title of assignment, course and section number, and date.
  • Content slides: Answer all the questions, reflecting appropriate personal and professional insights.
    • The assignment must be written in Standard English and demonstrate superior organization, including a highly developed viewpoint and purpose. Your responses should reflect professional writing standards, using proper tone and language. The writing and writing style should be correct, accurate, and reflect knowledge of skills and practice inthe profession.
    • Presentations are visual; therefore, use clear, concise bullet points and avoid crowded slides. You may include the use of graphics and SmartArt to streamline information in a memorable manner. Additionally, images and diagrams are wonderful presentation tools, but be sure to include all required citations. Please review the Creating Effective PowerPoint Presentations resource for tips and suggestions. Submissions must be in .pptx format and no larger than 40 MB.
    • Note: Visual effects and some dark-colored themes, such as Slate, may prevent Turnitin from fully processing a PowerPoint file and, consequently, from generating a Similarity Report. Review the file requirements to ensure a report will be generated.
  • Reference slide: Sources listed in current APA format.
    • Include a minimum of three of the materials provided in previous units and/or peer-reviewed, behavior analytic resources from the Purdue Global University Library to demonstrate that your selections, procedures, and/or assumptions in each section are based on relevant research literature and best practice standards.
  • Use Arial or Times New Roman 24-point font.
  • Use current APA formatting and citation style.
    • Please use this helpful video resource, APA Style Formatting in PowerPoint, to format a PowerPoint by applying current APA style to a title slide; body slides using bullet points, figures, tables, and copyright statements; and a reference list with hanging indentations.
