The 7 page argumentative essay is a kind of revisiting of the moral basis essay. The difference is you will now be using the ethical theories you learned in class.
Critically analyze your ethical bases, and your considered position on one of the topics taken up in our text or online (the chapter headings for Chapters 9 through 21. [Also, even if it your your first choice, you may not argue in the paper from or against any religiously based ethical theory, e.g. Divine Command Theory, Natural Law, etc. Pick a second appraoch if this would be your first choice.]
In other words,
1. State what ethical framework(s) (i.e. utilitarian, virtue, etc.) you use for making decisions. Analyze why you think this is a good ethical framework for making decisions.
2. State your position on your chosen policy and reconcile your bases and your position, identifying your ethical approach(es) and how your argued-for position is consistent with your bases. You may be able to entirely support your position with the method you use for making ethical decisions, or you may find that your position or some part of your position is not easily supported by your ethical framework. Either is fine as long as you explain clearly.
3 Identify the weaknesses in your position and employ the arguments of another ethical approach (i.e Kant, virtue ethics, etc.) to challenge your considered view, before trying to defend your position against the honest counter-position you just presented.
Make well-formed arguments with clearly established terms , attributions and supported conclusions. Demonstrate as much mastery of the course material as you can.
