Contributing to Patient Safety and Best Practice in the Perioperative Environment: Evidence Summary for ACORN Standards

Intent:

The aim of this assessment is to develop students’ understanding of how evidence supports safe and effective perioperative nursing practice. Students will conduct a focused literature review on a specific ACORN Standard. Through this task, students will demonstrate their ability to source, analyse, and extract relevant evidence from four peer-reviewed journal articles.

Using a structured template, students will summarise the background of the topic, outline their search strategy and inclusion/exclusion criteria, complete a data extraction table, and formulate a key evidence-based recommendation based on their findings. This assessment supports the development of foundational skills in evidence-based practice, critical appraisal, and academic writing relevant to perioperative nursing.
