This project is designed to meet all course objectives and allow you to apply concepts learned in the course to a final consumer informatics project. The assignment includes an in-depth exploration of the topic with at least three credible sources. Students will have two weeks to complete the assignment and prepare for the submission of their presentations.
Assignment Components
- Paper (150 points): 3 – 4 page paper describing the topic area, information gathered from referenced materials, and a discussion on the benefits/challenges related to the topic. For the topics of Consumer Health Websites, Online Support Groups, and Self-management apps, explain the benefits and challenges associated with the two selected. Please also discuss if there are any inherent barriers or access issues for consumers of different backgrounds, cultures, or socioeconomic limitations. Papers must be written using proper English and grammar as well as APA formatting. Use at least 3 scholarly references, and the format in APA 7th edition on a reference page that is not included in the total page number. Written assignments are to be submitted in the assignment tab in Canvas.
- Presentation (75 points): 3 – 5 slides (Not including title page or reference page) Presentation to include an introduction to your selected topic/sites, discussion of usability for consumer’s health and wellness, advantages and challenges, and recommendations for use. You will also provide a recording via voice thread or Kaltura and post to a discussion board for peers to view and comment on, the recording will not exceed 5 minutes in length.
