For this capstone project, you will play the role of a project manager hired by the same start-up company you have researched in the Coursera course included in PMG 4350 (“Project Execution: Running the Project”). In this role, you will apply project management principles to craft a five-stage plan to execute a social media marketing campaign for your start-up company. A typical social media campaign includes tasks such as creating a social media page, developing content strategies, and implementing targeted campaigns to increase brand awareness and drive customer engagement.
The five elements of the capstone project are as follows:
Part 1 – Project Initiation (objective and scope)
Part 2 – Project Planning (project plan)
Part 3 – Project Execution (implementation and monitoring)
Part 4 – Monitoring and Controlling Project Risks
Part 5 – Project Closure (lessons learned)

Note: Detailed instructions for each project element are provided in the weekly modules. What follows below is a brief overview.
Part 1 – Project Initiation – Project Charter
As the project manager, you will craft a 500-word document that defines your project objective, scope, and target audience for your start-up’s social media marketing campaign project. Make sure to include descriptions regarding the time, scope, and cost for your project.
Part 2 – Project Planning
As the project manager, you will create a one-page project plan containing the following elements:
- Title of your project
- Goal/Mission (social media marketing campaign project)
- Scope (what your social venture project plan entails)
- Timeline for implementation (start and end dates; project dependencies)
- Cost/Budget (breakdown of how you will use the grant money)
- Communication Plan (how will you update your stakeholders)
- Project Risks (at least two)
Part 3 – Project Execution
You will create a three- to five-minute pitch video based on your Part 2 project plan. The challenge will be to explain your one-page project plan in a succinct and engaging manner.
Note: A pitch video allows you to showcase your project vision, project story, and passion. This positively influences investment decisions that may result in full funding for your proposed social media marketing campaign project.
Part 4 – Monitoring and Controlling Project Risks
You will create a project risk register document. For at least two risks you have identified, you will provide a description of the risk, reasons/causes of the risk, level of risk (high, medium, low), and risk response strategy.
Part 5 – Project Closure
As the project manager, you will write a 500-word reflection document describing lessons learned from your project and, looking ahead, specific things you will do differently next time.
