For this paper, you will need to select an appropriate topic/issue, one that you can develop with facts, examples, statistics and other forms of evidence and references from credible sources. You will need to conduct research, consult scholarly source materials in formulating and supporting your argument. Your thesis/argument should be readily identifiable and strong, and your support well organized, unified and coherent. In the body of your paper, competence in summarizing, paraphrasing and quoting from source material and in integrating source material should be evident. Use and appropriate documentations style (APA, MLA). As with the less formal academic essay written earlier in the semester, this paper should also explore the complex issues inherent in the topic under discussion. An in-depth exploration is expected in this paper.
Option 1:
Throughout the semester we have analyzed the problems inherent within the prison and criminal justice system both internationally as well as locally. Based on what you learned during this semester, through class material as well as your own research, write a paper that proposes a solution for a specific problem at BDCS based on your area of study.

Angelia Davis argues that the media plays a major role in shaping society’s relationship with and expectations of prison and criminals. For this assignment, find popular representation(s) of prison (film/book/music) and write paper that explores the way that representation either continues to build or attempts to dismantle some of the popular negative stereotypes/narratives regarding “prison” and “criminals.”
